Information Mapping

A colleague recently introduced me to 'information mapping' as a method for writing documentation in a structured way. Robert E Horn (interesting link!) is credited with the method. A company called Information Mapping train people how to do it.

As I understand it, the method involves structuring information according to set templates according to what type of information it is. The method makes great claims in increasing readability of documentaton.

I remain somewhat skeptical at the moment but asking folks on UTEST about it did seem to reveal that lots of technical writers are familiar with the method but they have a mixed response to it.
